About

I have been running most of my life and I have learned a lot, through trial and error, about what is good for me and what is not. I saved my old race bibs, and from those I estimate that I've run approximately 73 races prior to starting this blog (not including triathlons!).

I started this blog in 2013 as a way to document, mostly for myself, my running experiences. People started asking me to share my knowledge about distance running with them and, so, this blog has taken on a new purpose. It is my way of passing on what I've learned to anyone who wants to listen.

What is the significance of "Masonjars on the Run?" Well, my last name is Mason. And my wonderful and supportive husband and I have been dubbed The Masonjars since we were married in 1998. By the way, my husband is an inspiration to me--he is an amazing athlete, he is an adventurer, and he is the gentlest and kindest person that I know. I am so glad he is the dad to my children because he balances out this type-A mom.

I began running, albeit infrequently, when I was in the sixth grade. My distances were one to three miles. I ran the 2-mile in track my senior year in high school. I entered my first fun run about seven years later. It was the Torchlight Parade 5K in Seattle, WA and I that was when I became hooked on running races. I did my first marathon (Hawaii) later that year and another marathon (Walt Disney World) a year after that.

Next, I moved on to triathlons for a few years. I completed Ironman Canada in 1997 and 1998. Then, I took time off from racing and earned my masters degree in business, got married, and started a family. I returned to running races in 2013.
